Compost Coordinator

Position Summary:

The Compost Coordinator will be responsible for managing the collection and diversion of food scraps for composting at assigned locations for Sow America, a non-profit organization whose mission is to regenerate land and communities through the education of agriculture, entrepreneurship, and self improvement. The Compost Coordinator will be responsible for promoting the benefits of composting as an alternative to conventional waste disposal, and will work to educate the community about composting practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Communicate regularly with the Compost Manager to provide required reports and updates.
• Arrive at assigned locations early to set up and prepare compost collection areas, including setting up tables and food-scrap collection bins.
• Promote food-scrap diversion to customers and the general public, and collect food scraps from participants.
• Record information during collection hours and maintain accurate records of compost collected.
• Have a thorough understanding of what can and cannot be composted, and educate program participants about composting practices.
• Understand community and industrial scale composting operations, and be able to communicate the differences between them.
• Answer questions about composting and represent Sow America at assigned locations.
• Clean and maintain work vehicles as needed, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Sow America.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
• Physical ability to lift heavy bins, ranging from 30-60lbs, and to stand for long periods of time in all weather conditions.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.
